Katrina has always balanced a love of science with a passion for writing. She wrote her first novel in high school, and studied languages and literature until her elective physics teacher encouraged her to switch tracks. With an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from McGill University, she pursued a successful career in aerospace, thinking that might get her closer to becoming an astronaut. A turning point came when she saw Pixar’s Toy Story in 1995, which is when she first realized it was possible to marry art with technology. After obtaining a graduate degree in computer graphics from the University of British Columbia, Katrina worked for many years in video games and film.
Things came full circle years later when she landed her dream job working as a software engineer for Pixar. The environment rekindled her love of story, and after a gentle prompt from her grandmother, she began writing again, focusing on fantasy because of her long-standing love of the genre.
Katrina lives in Vancouver, BC, Canada, on her sailboat, with her husband Guylain and a menagerie of dogs and cats, one of whom was more famous in Germany than she is. Connect with her online at
