After our near biblical rainy weather in December/January, yesterday was one of those perfect Vancouver February days. I sat in the cockpit of the boat - laptop where it belongs, on my lap - revising the book.
It was warm enough for me to spend several hours outside with the cockpit enclosure zipped up, bundled in a big polar fleece a friend made for me years ago. Canoeists and kayakers slipped by off the end of the dock, walkers occupied the seawall in droves.
A kingfisher perched on my neighbour’s spreaders. His blue crest made me think of British punk rockers of the eighties. I watched him for over a minute before he took off, swooping and chittering.
It’s a wonderful thing to be five minutes from downtown and have nature moments like this.
