I went to my first book launch on Sunday. The only thing that could have made the whole occasion better was if it had been the launch of my own book. :-)
Fellow UBC Booming Ground alum Jen Sookfong Lee's first novel The End of East is being released to much fanfare by Knopf Canada and Random House. Jen is Random House's New Face of Fiction for 2007. Salt Tasting Room hosted the event, providing bubbly and hors d'oeuvres. Jen read briefly - I admire her concentration amidst the flashbulbs and video cameras.
I feel honoured to have been invited to share in Jen's success. It's wonderful to see a local author who's worked so hard (and is still working hard) begin to see the fruits of all that labour. Congratulations to Jen and her fellow SpinWriters. They are a testament to what supportive writers can accomplish together.
