More on the Cell Phone Novel

February 8, 2008

A while back, I wrote a very short post on the rise of the cellphone novel in Japan. Blogging agent Nathan Bransford had a link to a translation of a portion of one of these.

I wonder if an adaptation of this style would be popular with the reluctant reader YA market?

I think, absolutely! How would that work? Where would they download it? Would it be chapter by chapter or the whole thing at once?

    Off to read more...

  2. Really interesting.

Is there an English language equivalent to these type of cellphone novel websites? With your skills, you could do this...

  3. I think in Japan they have some portal websites where cellphone users surf to download the text. The sites would be optimized for mobile use.

It wouldn't be that hard to set up such a site. The trick is getting all the content for it. In Japan, it has been user-generated, in that many of them have been written by young people like students.

I'm not sure I would have the patience to do the actual writing in this style. Maybe some kidcritters want to volunteer? :-)
