Margaret Atwood's definition of "ordinary", that is.
As a software engineer, I've paid a large amount of taxes over the years to the federal government. As a writer, I've made a grand total of about $300 from my writing - over the course of 4 years. This is partially why I still have a day job (I also like my day job); I'm not eligible for any of the federal grants Stephen Harper is so intent on disparaging, because I haven't published yet.
While I still haven't decided who I'm voting for, there are many reasons why I will be voting against Stephen Harper's party in this election. Harper's war on the arts is just one of them.
