I'm going to break my "don't say how I'm voting" rule, to say I'm voting YES to the single transferable vote referendum.
Here's a good opinion piece in the G&M on it. And here's a reference site.
STV works very well in many governments around the world. I'm tired of good candidates who get large percentages of the vote not having a voice in the legislature. I'm tired of large numbers of votes getting wasted - it's causing people to lose interest in one of the fundamental pillars of democracy: voting. We've been getting lower and lower voter turn-out for a reason: people feel their votes don't count.
So here's your chance: make your vote count by voting YES for STV.
And no, I won't tell you who I'm actually voting for on Tuesday. That's where I draw the line. But I will say I am not a member of any political party.
