I was surprised at how viscerally I reacted to this news. I react somewhat cynically to most news out of Ottawa, but this made me angry.
I mean, it's not like I haven't heard the term "the [insert Prime Minister of the day] government" used umpteen times by journalists and pundits, etc.
But.
At a moment in time where legions of people in North Africa and the Middle East are fighting to oust despotic one-man governments, I find it the height of arrogance for the leader of a minority government in a parliamentary system to mandate that our governing body refer to itself in press releases by his name.
I pay my taxes to the Canada Revenue Agency. My passport is issued by Canada. I am represented in the government of Canada by someone not of the party currently ruling by the skin of its teeth.
There's a quote in the linked-to article that says this matters to about 600 people in Canada. Well, make that 601.
